Artists note:-

An observation made by a soldier who witnessed the air attack on Cassino:

"..........over the target they dropped their bombs, and although we could not see them falling, we could see huge sheets of flame belch out enveloping the building in grey clouds of  smoke and dust........"

After painting a series of landscape works on Italy followed by a protest series on ' War Lords', I  thought it fitting to construct an amalgam of the two themes in this series. Young people, had their lives and futures shattered as they were plucked out for active service and the horrors of war. I think it appropriate that this work is dedicated to them.
